Site Description | The Kandang is a large, open air enclosure inside what was formerly a garden (Taman Sari) within the grounds of the palace of the Aceh Sultanate. The masonry walls run square around a large open space, and measure 21.65 meters in length, 21.5 meters wide, 3.4 meters high, and about 1.1 meter thick. There is a single entrance cut into the south side, just off center. The structure dates to the sixteenth16th/early 17th century. Its originally intended function is not clear. |
