Background
Site DescriptionGem Miskiyy is believed to be the first mosque built on the island of Fuvamulah – with its construction attributed to the thirteenth-century Islamic holy man, Abu Bakr Naib Kaleygefaanu. It was constructed in the area of a previous Buddhist ritual complex after the conversion of the local population. The mosque compound also contains a bathing tank (veyo), a well, an enclosed shrine (ziyaarat) and a cemetery.
