Background
Site Description
Feature 001 is a traditional stilted house located on the coast of Alor Kecil. It has corrugated metal roofing. There are two gables at the eastern and western ends of the top section of the roof, while two sets of panels are adjoined at the apex of these gables to form an X-shape that is a distinctive decorative element of the house. Extensions of the roof can be found in both the western (front) and southern sides of this house. There is also an extension on the northern side of this roof, which is narrow compared to the other sides. The roof and the entire structure of this house are supported by 24 columns: 16 large columns support the main roof, while the remaining 8 secondary columns support the extensions of the roof. Many of these columns are connected with one another by railings or wall structures. Additionally, on the pillar that supports the entrance of this house, the motifs of a spear and keris are carved in juxtaposition to the vertical inscription written in Latin characters that are oriented to the southwest. The bounding walls of the main room of this building composes of several main building materials: the external surfaces are composed of flattened bamboo installed on wooden framings, while the internal walls include wood planks installed on the same frames. The windows are composed of wooden frames that are also part of the framings of the wall. This house has five rooms, including a reception room in front (the west end), a living room in the middle, and three bedrooms. Additionally, there is a ladder up to a rectilinear veranda structure southwest of the building that serves as the main entrance to the reception room. There is also another narrow balcony on the eastern side of this building. While the veranda and the balcony have different levels of elevation, they are also bound by wooden railings. Another ladder leads directly up to the room in the middle, instead of the larger reception room in the west. The stairs also have different orientations, with that leading to the larger reception room running from the west to the east, and the one leading up to the middle oriented to roughly align the north-south axis. In addition, while the indoor floors of this house are made with wood planks, the flooring of the front porch area is cemented.

Project Description
The Maritime Asia Heritage Survey works to systematically inventory and digitally document the endangered cultural heritage in the Maldives, Indonesia, Thailand and elswhere across the region. The materials documented through this work are critically endangered, facing both natural and human threats that jeopardize the survival and accessibility of historical information for this vital node in pre-modern global economic and religious networks at the cross-roads of an interconnected Indian Ocean world. The data made available here was collected by our Field Team using FARO Focus S350 terrestrial laser scanner, Nikon DSLR camera, and DJI drone platform.
