| Site Description | Feature 001 is a traditional stilted house with walls painted in light blue and a gable roof flanked by an extension structure on the west. The roof is composed of metal corrugated sheets. The roof structure is supported by interlocked posts and beams, conjoined with a joinery system consisting of wooden nails. As a remark, twenty posts form the rectilinear stilted columns.
The ends of this gable, meanwhile, are oriented to align with a north-south axis. Decorative elements, including foliage, dragon, and fire motifs, are carved and painted on the rakes. Both the northern and southern gables feature triangular wood panels bounded by red wood beams, with a Chinese dragon motif painted on the upper section, and a zone of geometrical motifs on the lower section signifying kettledrums (moko) and flowers.
The bounding walls of this building are painted light blue, while wooden framings are incorporated into the exterior and interior wall structures.
There are stairs leading to the porch area in the west, inside which there is a smaller ladder that leads up to the main room, which has a slightly taller elevation. There is another partition structure, and then a back room inside this indoor area, which has the highest elevation as compared to the main room and the corridor.
The windows of the house have wooden railings connected to the frame, which is also flanked by two wooden panels on the left and right with foliated rims.
Meanwhile, an elongated opening for ventilation is installed on the upper sections of the western walls bounding the corridor. The elevated floor is covered by planks. | |
| Project Description | The Maritime Asia Heritage Survey works to systematically inventory and digitally document the endangered cultural heritage in the Maldives, Indonesia, Thailand and elswhere across the region. The materials documented through this work are critically endangered, facing both natural and human threats that jeopardize the survival and accessibility of historical information for this vital node in pre-modern global economic and religious networks at the cross-roads of an interconnected Indian Ocean world. The data made available here was collected by our Field Team using FARO Focus S350 terrestrial laser scanner, Nikon DSLR camera, and DJI drone platform. | |
