Site Description
Feature 001 is a wooden and bamboo house with a thatched, gable roof. The roof covers the main "room," as well as the elevated open space underneath. The upper section of the gable consists of woven bamboo, while the lower section is composed of thatch. The upper section of the two ends of the gable are open, while the lower sections of the gable ends are covered. Along the edge of the eastern side of this roof, a row of dried boar jaws are hanging. A number of sections wooden frames of the roof are carved and painted. Some of them are ornately decorated extension structures that are nearly perpendicular to the beams of this building structure, under and around the edges of the roof structure. Meanwhile, a pair of ornate wooden ornaments are placed on the front and rear side underneath the main room. The whole building structure is supported by four wooden columns. On the upper section of each of the columns, there is a circular wooden structure (asi'ai). The main room is elevated and enclosed by woven bamboo walls, with a door on the northern side. The upper part of the main room is used as an attic, with wooden stairs and an opening on the northeastern corner. A rectangular fireplace is situated in the southeastern corner of the room. There are narrow corridors surrounding each side of the main room in the middle. A wooden ladder provides access to the elevated room, connected to an opening on the northwestern corner of the corridor structures. Then, in front of wooden stairs is a small elevated platform. Another opening locates at the southwestern corner. The main room and attic floor are both covered with flattened bamboo. Meanwhile, the open space underneath the roof is an elevated platform (bale) that is also covered with flattened bamboo. The center of this platform is also enclosed with rectangular planks painted with ornate motifs.

Project Description
The Maritime Asia Heritage Survey works to systematically inventory and digitally document the endangered cultural heritage in the Maldives, Indonesia, Thailand and elswhere across the region. The materials documented through this work are critically endangered, facing both natural and human threats that jeopardize the survival and accessibility of historical information for this vital node in pre-modern global economic and religious networks at the cross-roads of an interconnected Indian Ocean world. The data made available here was collected by our Field Team using FARO Focus S350 terrestrial laser scanner, Nikon DSLR camera, and DJI drone platform.
