Background
Site DescriptionLocated just North of the historic center of Mexico city, Tlatelolco is the location of many important events in Mexico's history and serves as a touchstone for remembering past tragedies and losses while also showing the resilience and innovation exemplified in this neighborhood.
Project DescriptionWith support from the U.S. Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Preservation through the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City, CyArk traveled to Tlatelolco to provide training to local professionals and digitally document several historic buildings within the Tlatelolco neighborhood. Project partners produced an educational tour and high-resolution data to support conservation of these important resources. Trained workshop participants worked with CyArk to document six buildings in Tlatelolco that were damaged from the September 2017 earthquake using photogrammetry and laser scanning. Documentation was completed on the Church of Santiago Tlatelolco, The ex-convento of Tlatelolco, the Plaza of Three Cultures, select portions of the Tlatelolco archaeological site, the Chihuaha building and portions of the Centro Cultural universitario Tlatelolco. This project was made possible with support from the U.S. Embassy in Mexico and completed in partnership with the Centro Cultural Universitario at UNAM, the Secretaria de Relaciones Exteriores, and the Instituto Nacional de Antropologia e Historia.
